Welcome to Retired Caribbean Nurses & the NHS
Retired Caribbean Nurses & the NHS is an exhibition and oral history project that chronicles the experiences of retired nurses. These are individuals who were recruited from the Caribbean to the UK from 1949 onwards.
They were trained as nurses in the United Kingdom between then and 1970. They have lived trained and or worked in the East London Boroughs of Hackney and Newham.
This important Oral History Project will benefit our society by bringing diverse communities together, to help create a store of resources about the experiences of Caribbean nurses for future historical and educational purposes.
