Retired Caribbean Nurses & NHS Outreach Dalston Square 2013
An earlier outreach in Dalston Square of the Retired Caribbean Nurses & the NHS project was conducted. The aim to reach as many retired nurses living in Hackney and enrol them into signing up for the project, to attend the launch schedule for 19 October 2013 and or agree to be interviewed by volunteers for the project. It was a great afternoon, the two key personnel who supported the outreach were the the project officer (Glenor Roberts) and the project manager from Black Women in the Arts (Beverley Davis). The intent to inform Hackney residents and those visiting Hackney about the project its different parts and aims of the project:
Retired Caribbean Nurses & the NHS
Retired Caribbean Nurses & the NHS is an exhibition and oral history project that chronicles the experiences of retired nurses. These are individuals who were recruited from the Caribbean to the UK from 1949 onwards.
They were trained as nurses in the United Kingdom, between then and 1970. The have lived, trained and/or worked in the East London Boroughs of Hackney and Newham.
In the afternoon, we received a unexpected visit fromiane Abbott (MP for Hackney and North and Stoke Newington). A visit from the Labour MP , but we were delighted to welcome her to the stand, and talk with her about the project and its aims.
